A maid who was captured on video torturing a four-year-old child in Kampala has been sentenced to 40 years imprisonment by court.
In a video which has since gone viral on Tiktok, Precious Tumuhirwe, 34 was captured torturing the toddler in an incident that is said to have happened in Kikoko Zone, Namataba Cell, Kirinya Ward, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District on the night of December, 27.
The incident, which occurred on December 27 in Kikoko Zone, Wakiso District, was recorded and went viral on social media. Tumuhirwe fled after the crime but was later arrested in Kabale. In court, Tumuhirwe, represented by her lawyer, asked for a lenient sentence, claiming this was her first offense. She expressed remorse and apologized to the victim’s father, explaining she was a mother and sole provider for her daughter.
However, the state prosecutor, Cathy Basuuta, argued for a harsh sentence to deter others. She highlighted that the crime was premeditated, and the victim suffered severe physical and emotional harm.
Chief Magistrate Shallon Niwaha stated that despite Tumuhirwe being a first-time offender, her actions were brutal and showed no remorse. She described the victim’s suffering, noting the Severe injuries caused by the maid’s actions. As a result, Tumuhirwe was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
